Paul and “The Wellington Functions Team” look after four of Wellington’s finest function centres. Wharewaka Function Centre and the historical Wellington Rowing Club, sit side by side on Wellingtons Waterfront, along with The Hub-Toitu Poneke, located in Kilbirnie and the most traditional of all, Pipitea Marae & Function Centre, in Thorndon. These venues are quickly becoming the premier choice for Wellingtonians and Conference organisers looking for modern venues with a historical, contemporary or a Māori touch.
The jewel in the crown or our most precious taonga, is the Wharewaka Function Centre. Now seven years on from opening, this venue is a highly sort after space. Wharewaka has a very contemporary Māori feel to it, subtle but present. Wharewaka can seat about 230 people or up to 700 for cocktail parties. Perched right on the harbour, the venue utilises its stunning views with large, sweeping windows. Bi-folding doors open up towards the ocean, creating a seamless flow between the interior and exterior of the building.
A stone’s throw away from the best hotels, restaurants and nightlife Wellington has to offer.
Wharewaka also showcases two ceremonial waka – the traditional canoes used by Māori voyagers – and its name, Wharewaka, directly translates to ‘The House Boat’. Walking and Waka Tours are now available to book, offering experiences and insights into our Waterfront history. The distinctive building is complemented by an in-house café which can be booked separately, or for larger functions, the whole venue can be booked.
Pipitea Marae & Function Centre, one of the largest venues in the Wellington City. A large open area, built in stage, this venue is perfect for pōwhiri, hui, conferencing etc. Options to extend the areas, with marquees in the front of the Marae can make this venue very versatile. The completion of renovations in 2015 involved re-carpeting sound-proofing, fitting lighting and sound systems and installing heating. The stunning outdoor area was placed second in the Innovation Public Open Spaces category of the Wellington Civic Trust awards. Seated dinners for 450, theatre seating for 800.
New to our portfolio are the Wellington Rowing Club and The Hub-Toitu Poneke. The Rowing Club Function Room is situated in a supreme waterfront location. The historic building has stunning panoramic harbour views and a truly unique atmosphere. Indoor outdoor flow and 5 minutes from the City Centre, a beautiful venue for groups of up to 100.
The Hub-Toitu Poneke, is our newest venue, again a refurbished venue, originally the Poneke Rugby Club rooms, that now boast three rooms for hire, used regularly for day meetings and dinners. The location is just five minutes from Wellington airport this is a great space for day meetings.
